The Urban Bruiser
We moved here last year to the great state of Georgia with high expectations and we have not been disappointed. However, those expectations were not focused towards the opportunity of harvesting any real mature whitetail deer. We have had a great time spotting and hunting deer here in Georgia with low exceptions of seeing any really big deer. That was until we spotted a really mature buck within the urban area that we live. We did our homework of the terrain and what appeared to be his travel patterns. As the sun began to set last Monday night the distinct sound of a “pop” that can only be made from a large presence brought me to full attention. There directly behind me was a very nice 9-point along with a very large 6 point. I must say it was a pleasant surprise to see a 5 yr old plus living with the urban sitting of North Georgia. I got a closer look at this deer and was able to see the mass and maturity that this deer offered. It wasn’t long after getting a better look that I decided to seal the deal with a 20-yard shot. To my surprise he was the largest six point “mature” deer I have ever shot. Now more than ever I hold to the formula to produce trophy deer: Genetics, Nutrition and Proper Management.
