Recently I was in a pro-shop here in the Atlanta area when I overheard a man speaking of his desire for deer season. He went on to share a story about killing a deer last year. There was a particular part of the story that was very interesting to me. It was the part that he shared concerning the fact he didn’t know it was actually a buck until he walked up on it after he shot it. You might ask “were the horns to small, was it in some brush,” etc. NO….he said it was to dark for him to see.
After hearing his story I must say the first thing I wanted to know is where he hunts and to make sure I am miles away from this man. Then I began to think about what type of individual shoots a deer in such low light. He took several risks: not only being unable to clearly identify a deer, let alone who might have been behind the deer when he took his shot.
As sportsman/woman, we have a duty to not only abide by the rules and regulations that have been set forth for our safety, but to insure we conduct ourselves as model leaders. We make a statement to our community and children the way we conduct ourselves in our homes, business and afield. So, the next time you are out ask yourself what your hunting or fishing habits say about you and your character.
